PRIVATE ON-PREMISE AI / LAW FIRMS

Opposing counsel is already using AI.

The question is whether the firm controls where client files go and how the work gets checked. Put an approved tool on the firm’s own network.

01 / WHY LOCAL

THE FIRM NEEDS CONTROL.

PUBLIC CLOUD / EXTERNAL

01

ALREADY IN USE.

Lawyers are already using AI. A firm-wide approved system is safer than unmanaged personal accounts.

02

CLIENT FILES.

Client strategy, discovery, and trade secrets should not be handed to an unapproved AI vendor.

03

THE CHECK.

Every output still requires lawyer review. The Node changes custody, not professional responsibility.

02 / ONE REAL JOB

WATCH IT WORK.

Thursday, 6:40 PM.

The deposition ran long. An associate has four hundred pages of transcript, a folder of exhibits, and a summary due tomorrow.

The Node produces a draft summary and exhibit index on the firm’s network. The associate reviews it and leaves. The files stay inside.

The first pass gets faster. Custody and final review stay with the firm.

03 / WHAT CHANGES

CLIENT FILES IN. FINISHED WORK OUT.

01

SUMMARIZE

Turn depositions, discovery, and matter files into reviewable drafts on the firm’s network.

02

COMPARE

Find changed clauses, missing terms, and differences across large sets of documents.

03

BUILD

Create small internal tools without sending client records to another vendor.

04 / THE MACHINE

05 / FAQ

QUESTIONS

Will it make up citations?

Any model can, and the dedicated legal tools are not immune: Stanford's 2024 benchmark measured hallucination rates of 17 to 34 percent in the leading AI research products. The duty to check authority stays with the lawyer, on every tool. What a Node changes is where the work happens: drafts and client files stay inside the firm.

Do we need client consent to use it?

It depends on the client, matter, task, jurisdiction, and documented behavior of the system. Your ethics counsel decides. ABA Opinion 512 requires informed consent before representation information enters a self-learning tool that may expose it to others. A standard Node is configured to block external model egress, and Splay documents that architecture for the firm’s review.

What exactly is a SPLAY Node?

A SPLAY Node starts as new commercial NVIDIA or NVIDIA-based hardware. SPLAY installs SplayOS and a validated model, configures the local interface, blocks external egress, tests recovery, documents the system, and installs it in your building. The result is a complete private AI system—not a cloud subscription or a computer kit.
